Sucralose is made from sugar and tastes like sugar. Sucralose is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar, so only very small amounts are needed to sweeten foods and drinks. Increasingly, great tasting low-calorie foods and drinks are being sweetened with sucralose and consumers in many countries are experiencing its sugar-like taste. The unique combination of its sugar-like taste and the fact that sucralose retains its sweetness (i.e. does not break down), has enabled a far wider range of reduced- calorie products to be offered to consumers than ever before. Sucralose is safe for use by the whole family including children, women who are pregnant or nursing and even people with diabetes. Like all food ingredients, sucralose was put through an extensive safety testing program before it was allowed on the market. Health and regulatory authorities around the world have thoroughly evaluated safety studies on sucralose and in every case have concluded that sucralose is safe for use by all the family. Sucralose is not recognized as sugar or a carbohydrate by the body. Thus, it has no effect on glucose utilization, carbohydrate metabolism, the secretion of insulin, or glucose and fructose absorption. Studies in persons with normal blood glucose levels and in persons with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes have confirmed that sucralose has no effect on short- or long-term blood glucose control.Made from sugar

Although sucralose is made from sugar, is not recognized by the body as a carbohydrate and so it has zero calories. Sucralose is a helpful alternative for people trying to reduce their sugar or calorie intake. Many diet or light products including soda or fizzy drinks, confectionery, dairy desserts and baked goods are sweetened with sucralose. Sucralose is exceptionally heat stable, making it ideal for use in baking, canning, pasteurization, aseptic processing and other manufacturing processes that require high temperatures. In studies among a range of baked goods, canned fruits, syrups, and jams and jellies, no measurable loss of sucralose occurred during processing and throughout shelf life. Sucralose does not cause dental problems. Studies prove that sucralose is not used as a food source by oral bacteria that cause tooth decay. Sucralose combines the taste of sugar with the heat, liquid and storage stability required for use in all types of foods and beverages. It is very stable in acidic products such as carbonated soft drinks, and in other liquid-based products (e.g., sauces, jelly, milk products, processed fruit drinks). Sucralose is also very stable in dry applications such as powdered beverages, instant desserts, and tabletop sweeteners. Consumers can, therefore, be confident of a great sugar-like taste with products sweetened with sucraloseNo calories
